Stem Cell Therapy for Corneal Blindness

Researchers

Research Description

  • The CCB lab has isolated stem cells from adult human corneas that can be expanded greatly in culture but function as corneal cells when transplanted into corneas.
  • These cells restore transparency in mice with genetically cloudy corneas.
  • The injected stem cells do not undergo immune rejection and may have immune suppressive properties. * The goal of this project is to prepare these cells for human clinical trials in for corneal scarring.
