Role for Hyaluronan in Corneal Pathology

Researchers

Research Description

  • Hyaluronan (HA) is a polysaccharide not normally found in cornea but appears rapidly in cornea after trauma or wounding.
  • HA triggers inflammatory responses and blocking HA synthesis reduces scar tissue formation.
  • This project examines the molecular mechanism by which HA contributes to corneal scarring with the goal of reducing corneal scarring by blocking hyaluronan synthesis.
